Word of the Year for 2023

It’s that time of year, people are making their resolutions and choosing words and phrases for the year.

I have a confession to make, I completely forgot what my word of the year was for 2022. For the life of me, I couldn’t remember what it was. I had to go back in my journals to see what I picked. It was “HOME”. Great choice right? I love the word “HOME”. Just saying it relaxes my body. Looking back, I’m not totally sure if my word stayed with me throughout the year. It provided me what I needed at least for the beginning of the year. But then it sort of slipped out of my consciousness.

I’m here to say, that’s okay. It’s okay if you forgot your word. If you made resolutions and they fell to the wayside. It’s okay.

The opposite for me has also been true. I used the same three words for 4 years, “Stretch, Create, Grow”. They’ve been lovely reminders. A friend of mine made me a necklace and had those three words engraved on it. Which is probably another reason why I remembered it and kept coming back to it.

What do you need this year? What have you learned from the past year? Your word or phrase isn’t meant to be a destination, it’s an intention. You can check various lists to help you find your word, like here and here.  My word for 2023 is SPUNK. I haven’t found it on other word lists so far, which of course makes me feel quite special and therefore a bit “spunky.” :)

There are a number of ways to remember or keep your word of the year in the forefront of your mind. You can get a piece of jewelry engraved like I have. Etsy has some nice prints you can order as digital downloads as well, like this shop and this one. You could also print out the definition of your word and simply frame it to hang on a wall or put on a shelf for you to see daily.

When I looked up the definition of spunk, I discovered that it is thought to be the combination of spark and funk. Which truly makes it even more appealing to me.

What is your word for the year? How are you feeling about entering 2023?

If you find that part of your intentions this year include seeking out counseling to help you feel grounded, whole, healed or to grow, reach out. We’d love to help you live your word to the fullest in 2023!
